What is the Eden Project Morecambe?
A brand new piece of the Eden Project is edging closer to arriving in the North, as progress on the Eden Project Morecambe moves forward.
Lancashire Council granted planning permission for the £100m eco-development back in 2022, with the structure promising to ‘reimagine the British seaside resort for the 21st century.’
More recently, Eden Project Morecambe, previously known as Eden Project North, was awarded £50m in the second round of the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund.
The team says this funding allows the project to move into its next phase and allows them to begin the process of finalising the remaining funds required from private and philanthropic sources identified as part of the bidding process.
Where will Eden Project Morecambe be?
The venue, which is set to include three large biomes, will be situated on the central promenade of Morecambe, on the former site of the Bubbles leisure complex.
What will Eden Project Morecambe offer?
Eden Project Morecambe will host a varied calendar of ticketed events and installations dedicated to connecting visitors with the natural world, and championing the ‘internationally significant natural environment of Morecambe Bay while also enhancing wellbeing.’
The programme will span exhibits, performances, learning, play, immersive experiences, world-class horticulture, live music, art, food, beverage and retail spaces.
The ambitious space will be divided up into four distinct areas: Above the Bay, focusing on plants, art and life linked to the sun, Below The Bay showcasing immersive theatrical experiences inspired by the tides and lunar rhythms, The Natural Sanctuary featuring bookable wellbeing treatments and The Natural Observatory which will house the venue’s educational output.
When will Eden Project Morecambe open?
The venue is being earmarked for a provisional 2026 opening, before launching fully in Spring 2027.
Online and in-person Community Conversations will be taking place on the first Tuesday of every month between now and January, offering the public regular updates and the opportunity to help shape the future of the project. You can register for Community Conversations here.
