The Wizard of Oz – the Dukes Play in the Park

18th July 2025 - 24th August 2025

Icon Marker Large Lancaster

Get the feeling you're not in Lancaster anymore as you follow the yellow brick road into the Emerald City this summer as the Dukes proudly presents "The Wizard of Oz”.

With Williamson Park transforming into the Emerald City, audiences can expect to be whisked away on a vibrant, colourful mission to find the Wizard in order to help Dorothy get home to Lancaster.

Dorothy is desperately searching for fluffy runaway Toto when a storm sweeps her away from her home in Lancaster into a world full of surprises and wonder. With her new found companions: the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion, Dorothy must navigate the curiosities and dangers of Oz, all while staying one step ahead of the Wicked Witch. Along the way, she'll discover that courage, heart, and wisdom can be found in the most unexpected places.

The Wizard of Oz runs on Tuesdays - Sundays from 18 July - 24 August at 7.15pm.

Tickets must be booked in advance.

Group bookings negotiable, please contact The Dukes Box Office on 01524 598500 or tickets@dukeslancaster.org

Facilities

  • Some scenes have seats to sit on, and some do not. You can bring along your own folding chairs or mats. There will be a designated area for folding chairs at each scene.
  • As space is limited and access can be difficult pushchairs are not allowed. Babies carried by an adult in a sling/papoose do not need a ticket.
  • Warm outdoor clothing, appropriate footwear for all outdoor terrains, and waterproofs are essential. It is also advisable to bring sun lotions and midge spray.
  • You are welcome to bring your own picnic.
  • There are two car parks in Williamson Park, but we recommend using Wyresdale Road. This is the largest and easiest to return to at the end of the evening. There is free parking for disabled badge holders with no time limit. Parking charges after 5.30pm are £1.20

Accessibility

  • There will be slow guided walks of approximately 5-10 minutes between each scene. Some of these walks will be up and down steep slopes. These routes are wheelchair accessible.
  • WHEELCHAIR / MOBILITY SCOOTER USERS: Because the route takes you up and down steep slopes, you will require somebody physically fit to assist you. If you haven’t already, please call the Box Office on 01524 598500 to request a free ticket for this person.
