Audiences can experience the pounding rhythms of Africa blended with the explosive energy of a live band when Afro-Jazz band Ubunye visit Morecambe’s More Music on Saturday 9th May at 8pm. This vibrant group of Zulu performers, combined with seasoned UK musicians, mix ancient tradition with contemporary flare, and promise to deliver a soulful performance of original pieces fused with South African songs. Blending jazz, Afro-pop and traditional Zulu music, Ubunye combine powerful vocal harmonies rooted in South African heritage with a driving rhythm section.
The performance comes as the band continues to showcase material from their latest album, Tell Me The Truth Or Don’t Tell Me Anything. In keeping with More Music’s carefully curated programme, Ubunye have been handpicked by More Music’s Creative Producer Ben McCabe, who says: “I’m really glad to be bringing Ubunye to More Music after seeing them at Lancaster Jazz Festival last year. They have an amazing range of styles, influences and personalities to take an audience on a fascinating journey from folkloric to fusion. The three vocalists reach out to the crowd with warmth and fun. This season’s gigs definitely have a positive push!”
Ubunye—meaning “unity” or “oneness” brings together vocalists from South Africa’s Kwa Zulu-Natal region with leading UK jazz musicians. Their work reflects a powerful cross-cultural collaboration, merging tradition with a modern sound to create a distinctive and soulful performance.
