Join the charity, Morecambe Bay Partnership, for a guided walk around beautiful Birkrigg Common discovering its extraordinary archaeological story. With stunning views and wide-open spaces, the pure peace of Birkrigg Common attracts thousands of people every year. It’s a wonderful place to walk the dog, ride a bike, or simply take in the fresh air and gather your thoughts. It offers one of the most spectacular views of the Bay and surrounding hills - giving an unbeatable panorama!

Birkrigg Common was probably just as important for past communities as it is today. This walking tour will explore the clues to how the land was used over the last 4000 years, both in life and in death that are scattered across the Common.

There are no facilities on the Common and the tour will cross uneven ground. Please wear suitable footwear and bring any refreshments you may need.

This is a fundraising event for the Charity, Morecambe Bay Partnership. Money raised will help fund vital projects supporting nature, heritage and our communities.

Your ticket and your support is helping:

NATURE which is under great threat

Caring for Morecambe Bay comes at a cost.

Every year, since 2015, our volunteers have been carefully clearing vegetation, primarily bracken, away from the immediate area of monuments on Birkrigg Common. Each year less bracken has grown back improving the visibility of the monuments. Previously hidden features are now visible all year round and grassland flower species are establishing themselves in the open areas increasing the biodiversity of the common.

The reduction in bracken growth has allowed Historic England to remove Birkrigg's sites from their Heritage at Risk register.

This achievement for Morecambe Bay's heritage is only possible through continued recruitment of volunteers, volunteer training, provision and maintenance of equipment, and storage of tools - all of which comes at a cost to the charity.

A donation of £5.00 would help the charity Morecambe Bay Partnership continue protecting Morecambe Bay's nature, heritage and culture. With your help we can continue to look after this very special place.
