Contemporary Women Icons: An Image-Making Workshop

10th March 2025

Icon Marker Large Lancaster

Come and celebrate the women who inspire you in iconography - the most ancient form of sacred art! An icon is designed to immortalise a person who transformed people's lives, inspiring them to believe in something greater than themselves. By contemplating their legacy as they paint, you encounter their presence and share their image with your wider community.

Historically, icons have represented a narrow range of people, but this workshop will give you the chance to iconise the women who have made a difference in your life and whom you might not necessarily see on church walls. We’ll talk about how art allows us to express our religious beliefs and spiritual experiences and what it might mean to make devotional rituals and worship practices more inclusive and welcoming.

The workshop will be led by Brian Baker (ELCW) - an artist and CO-I for the Contemporary Women Icons IAA project - https://contemporaryicons.wordpress.com/
