Middleton Nature Reserve - Walks with Stories

Middleton Nature Reserve - As a former industrial site the refinery produced aviation fuel in World War 2 and then was used as a chemical factory until the 1970s. The site became disused and then wildlife began to takeover.

Distance: Three circular walks of half an hour each.
Accessibility: The site includes wetland and grassland habitats.

1. Turn off Middleton Road
next to Grafter’s Café and the reserve car park is on the right with a height barrier.
2. From here you can simply do a circular walk around ‘Swan Lake’ and back.
3. Halfway along the path
a gap in the hedge gives you the option to step into a more ‘post-apocalyptic’ world which stretches as far a Moneyclose Lane next to the entrance to Ocean Edge Caravan Park.
4. Back at the car park
cross the road and another loop around this part of the designated reserve stretches as far as Carr Lane.
